Midnight Desert (a lot more fun than Midnight Dessert)

Just wanted to remind everyone that RSA will be sponsoring Midnight Desert in the Dining Hall tomorrow, Tuesday, May 13th from 11pm to 1am. It’s usually a lot of fun because there is always a big turnout. I find it a great way to relax and celebrate the end of classes - you know, calm before the storm kinda thing. Desert is free but it will be Bring Your Own Appetite.

  1. I wish it was still Midnight Breakfast :( Hopefully they have some good stuff though for Midnight Desert

  2. I wish it was Midnight Breakfast too…

but thats a fall tradition and this is the new spring one so its all good sucka

  3. I got food poisoning from midnite breakfast last semester…it was still fun tho

  4. I hope it wasn’t the eggs i was dishin out mann, seriously lol

although it prolly was. Those things were groady lol

  5. It’s backwards — SS = sweet stuff, 1 S = sand.

  6. Oh man, the childhood ways of remembering the difference between dessert and desert.

We learned it that dessert has another s because you always want more of it.

  7. Your use of desert/dessert really ‘affected’ the way I looked at this post.

  8. The RESLIFE email said it was a Midnight Desert. Not dessert.

  9. Can Walker residents still attend this? We don’t have res cards.

  10. Err, last I checked Walker residents can go to the dining hall.

  11. Well, I know they can GO to the dining hall… Just in past years, to get into Midnight Whatevers you have to show your resident ID card, which Walker residents don’t have.

  12. you should be ashamed of that flagrant misspelling but i guess the joke’s a little funnier this way

  13. It was not a misspelling on my akount, the email said “midnight desert” so I made a play on it. but thanks for your concern.

  14. usually what they do is they have a list of all walker residents so you go, show them your red ID, and they mark you off.

I assume it’s the same this semester

  15. Yes, they usually have a list of students who live in the Walker Apartments, you’ll be able to get in.

  16. I don’t know if it’s just me but the whole midnight food stuff kind of sucks.

The portions are always tiny and the dining hall is packed. Sure it’s “free” but you get “free” sweets whenever you go to the dining hall normally just you get to have as much as you want rather than some tiny scoop.

  17. I had a really fun time at the Midnight Dessert. I got enough ice cream and cookies and brownies and lemon squares and ginger bread blondies I could have asked for on the first time around. I felt like I was on a real college campus when I was in there. I think it was a great success.

  18. @ UMBC Anon

trust me, I was all for giving all you can eat or having a super wide variety of stuff there. But it never did, and never will fit into the budget. Sodexho actually paid for allot of what we had last night so we’re also limited to what they’re willing to give us

  19. Thanks to everyone who came out. RSA’s Midnight Dessert 2008 (I would know how to spell it, I was on the committee) was one of the most successful events in the organization’s history. There were 1005 people that showed up last night. We, the committee would like to thank everyone that showed up last night and I thank you all for making this one of the most rewarding nights of my very short UMBC career.
To all the volunteers who did not get my email, Thanks so much.

  20. I’m all for campus events and togetherness (no, seriously, i am ridiculously into it), but I can’t justify standing in a packed room with a thousand other people to wait for a scoop of ice cream and some cookies.

I’d rather spend a dollar and buy some and not feel ridiculous.

That being said, I’ve only been to one of these “Midnight” things, and that was last Fall’s breakfast, because I “DJed.”

  21. I had lots of fun at Midnite Dessert. Yes there were crap tons of people for a little bit of sweets but my friends and I definitely made the best of our sugar highs.
