Late Night Fire Alarms in Erickson
Around 2:30 this morning (Friday into Saturday) I was hanging out at a friend’s place when I was informed that the fire alarms were going off in Erickson and that there were sirens and police abounding. I was curious, and one of my friends visiting from Erickson was concerned, so we went over to check it out. I saw one fire engine, and two police cars, one of which pulled up right as I was getting there.
I went to talk to some of the Erickson residents who were awakened/disturbed by the late/early hour of the fire alarms, and spoke with 5 residents from the first, second, and third floors, including an R.A. Three had been asleep, one had just returned from off campus, and one was just on his way to bed when the fire alarm went off. None of them had seen or heard or smelled anything that would have indicated why the fire alarm had gone off at about 2:25 AM. One resident suggested the idea of faulty wiring in the alarms somewhere.
Most of the residents looked rather displeased and half asleep while they were waiting to be let back into the dorm. Police and other safety personnel inspected the building, and residents were let back into their rooms at 3:02AM. I managed to get a few pictures on my cell phone camera, but nothing terribly interesting or good quality.
Please comment with any more information you may have and I’ll update if something big develops.

Man, that’s nothing! You resident kids got it easy!
I’m a commuter and I live in Baltimore city, and I had a person murdered right under my windows the other day! I had to listen to police and ambulance sirens all night…
Last week, the fire alarm went off in Chesapeake for about 15-20 seconds, then shut off on its own. When I went to the front desk afterwards to report that the door alarm in the Community Room was sounding, I overheard one of the UMBC police officers saying that it was a false alarm. Perhaps something similar happened in Erickson?
no because I live in cpk too and when the alarm went off there it was because a cop accidently set it off lmao
here? nah its the real deal. some asshole probably forgot to take their hot pocket out of the oven. or better yet, they heated a hookah coal up on a grill because its too cold outside right? yea.
either way, i went over there and sat in the courtyard while people ran frantically around me. some jerk told me to get up and leave so i did. then we had to sit on the other side of that god damned hill. oooh i love fire drills! hahaha
That’s nothing! The fire alarm went off about three times last semester in harbor and each time we were stuck outside until about 7AM! I slept in my car once, in sus basement, and at a friends place. Mind you that it was cold last semester and one of the times it was misting! All of this because of moronic people! One kid got caught smoking his hooka in the dorms and after he had already been caught, he decided it would be a good idea to throw his hot charcoal piece in the trash!!!
I usually just sleep through the things in Harbor. Is that bad?
Wait… We’re not allowed to smoke hookah? What kind of school is this?!
We’re allows to smoke it, just not indoors. just like ciggarettes
Last year at Walker apts the fire alarms would go off about every week and often at 2 or 3am. There was never a fire or anything just drunk people pulling the fire alarm or something else. Since then I’ve never left my apartment for a fire alarm cause it is always a false alarm.
not for long if niggas keep fukin up son
Yeah, I actually just stayed inside. I’d rather get my sleep than not be burned alive.
@meeee: That’s just ridiculous! They should have alternate housing for people if stuff like this happens.
Yeah, the Harbor ones were ridiculous. And it was all within a few days of one another… they definitely could have handled that one better I think.
its stories like these that makes me glad i commute sometimes. half of the place full of pot smokers anyway(allegedly) its a wonder if there were more fire alarms going off.
That doesn’t set off the fire alarms, and neither do cigarettes. If the alarm is going off outside of a drill, it’s because someone lit something like trash on fire or pulled the alarm… or the equipment is faulty.
no. no, weed does not set off the fire alarms. smoking weed produces very little smoke, and i’m pretty sure the fire alarms are set off by significant quantities of carbon monoxide. cigarettes produce far more smoke and they do not set off the fire alarm either.
update UU!
I know it’s frustrating, but we won’t be updating too often this summer. Sorry. Feel free to continue the threads on the forum or start your own, though.
