Yeah, so for all the veggie-arians out there:

The veggie burger is a Boca burger now, which I like much better. It was very tasty. ALSO you can now upgrade to a bottled drink for $.20, which you ever used to be able to do. This is great for those of us who don't like t drink soda.

Unfortunately, the same people are still working at the grill. I'm not sure why Jay thinks they are so great, but they're always usually pretty rude to me because I guess actually having to cook a veggie patty is annoying compared to just grabbing a pre-made burger.

Example: The girl tosses me my veggie burger on a styrofoam plate. I ask if I can have a piece of wax paper to wrap the burger in because I'm taking it to class with me and my hands are already full. Girl tells me to put in in a paper bag sitting on counter. I'm not about to put a hot burger with condiments, veggies, and all into a paper bag just to have it fall apart, so I explain again what I mean about the piece of wax paper that they usually have their sandwiches wrapped in. Girl walks way for a good 40-50 seconds while I'm standing at the counter waiting and bitches to a coworker loudly about "dumb-ass customers." Then she walks back up to me and pulls said wax paper out of a huge, full box of them from right under the counter and hands it to me.

Yeah. In general, I've had pretty terrible service at the grill. There are a few nice employees there, but they're pretty non-accommodating for vegetarians or anyone with special requests, especially if it involved them going out of their way at all.

I just transferred from St. John's University in NY, and during my last semester our cafeteria switched from Sodexho to Chartwells. Let me warn you! Chartwells has a few good programs and food offerings, but as far as quality goes, it is about the same as Sodexho.

Also, if the cafeteria kept most of its former Sodexho workers, you should expect the same service. I've never ate on campus at UMBC, but I am not surprised to read your comments! lol

Just like the UMBC student body, St. John's students fought to have Sodexho out. We felt we deserved better for our $45,000 a year tuition! It took a series of failed health inspections for Sodexho to finally be replaced.

I am not expecting much from the UMBC cafeteria now that I know they have contracted Chartwells. Maybe I'll be surprised and the food will actually be decent!!

"It feels great to finally write this down. I’ve been holding on to it for a while now with the idea in mind that I could take it to a New Urbanist developer and immediately get a job there. I didn’t want to share it with anyone in case someone stole it."

Hahahahhaha. Keep dreaming. On both counts.

Peak oil is a hypothesis, not a theory, about the current oil situation. I am a massive self-labeled environmentalist, but as someone who watches the markets closely, I can't help but agree that the current oil situation is a commodity bubble. The question is not how high oil prices will go, but how far they'll drop. That said, I love that people who would otherwise never talk about alternative energies (read: McCain) are using this opportunity to clamor about the need for fuel alternatives. I'm glad this market fluke is producing discussion, but if it contributes to neo-cons passing legislation legalizing the drilling of off-shore sites or the artic, it will all be for moot. By our own countries department of energy, there is not enough oil to make it anywhere near worthwhile.

I shouldn't be surprised to see a UMBC student writing of McCain so quickly, but the information you presented about him is just plain WRONG. You have to have been living under a rock (or getting your information strictly from anti-McCain commercials) to think that his ONLY energy solution is to "expand our search for oil" and that he isn't "on the side of alternative fuels" with Obama.

McCain has been significantly more vocal than Obama about interest in nuclear power. He also has plans to institute a "Clean Car Challenge," create a prize for improving battery technology for automobiles, and create harsher penalties for automobile makers who do not meet standards. He also wants to help stimulate the market for alternative fuels like wind, solar and hydro power, (in addition to his plans for nuclear power) while also working on clean coal initiatives to try to improve what reliable sources we already have.

You have good ideas and this is a good thing for students to be discussing, but don't preface your argument with misguided, overtly political and just plain WRONG characterizations without doing your research.

Anyone know about their specials? I remember the Grill having popcorn shrimp and cheese steaks. Are at least the cheese steaks still available?
