Wassup everybody. I’m a transfer student starting this spring and I’m trying to find some skydivers that go to UMBC. I currently jump at maytown sport parachute club up in lancaster, pa and I’ve got 60 jumps and my A license (no water jump training for B yet) If you’re a skydiver at UMBC, let me know! I eventually would like to start a team to take to collegiate nationals.
Blue Skies,
Jason (jhamm1 at umbc dot edu)
i dont skydive, but dude that is fuckin awesome
*shameless promotion* *ok, maybe a little shame*
Iād like to make an open call to any boys who might be interested in trying out for the Cleftomaniacs, the co-ed a cappella group we have here at UMBC.
If interested at all, please visit our booth at Involvement Fest on Monday, Feb. 4th

Cool!
@Jason
I just saw your facebook group for the skydiving club. Are you guys recognized yet?
@treeveins
We’re almost there. I’m going to be turning in all of the necessary forms today. Facebook really helped me get people together. I’m not sure how long the process is, but we hope to start jumping starting in March when it gets a little warmer.

Down and Dirty Dawg Band’s First CD? Sweet!
Found this just now. I used it to convert youtube videos (music) to mp3’s. Free. Worked successfully for one file so far… testing it out on some others.
File sizes are kinda large though…
A performing arts festival will be held on March 7th at 8pm in the ballroom. It’s free to everyone. There will be performances from the Musical Theatre Club, Cleftomaniacs, Mamas Boys, and the Ballroom Dance Club.
Anybody know about the 48Hr Film Festival? Can we actually make short movies and submit them? Please someone give me info. in this as I am interested in doing a short film, and I may need few people to help out with a script I’m working on…
Thanks
Yeah dude.

Thanks for the link…. Can a team back out of the competition after we receive the prop/line/plot if for some reason the team cannot do the short film ?
Also, other than the prop/line/plot given, can we use other props? Can we direct the movie however we want as long as the required “tools” are in the movie?
KOOL AID MAN VS. MR. PEANUT
This is exactly what I’d always hoped UMBCTube would encompass. Short movies made by students.
I am sure there are tons of people who have movies they either made in high school or since getting to UMBC. I’d love it if more people shared these nostalgic treasures, but I’m wondering: does anyone actually know how students get their movies on UMBC Tube?
ByStudents is a new, entirely student-written guide to America’s top colleges.
We want to hear what you have to say about UMBC - the good and the bad. Are the stereotypes true? What’s the most unique class you’ve taken? What do you wish you could change?
Fill out our survey and speak your mind. We’ll read every response, post them online, and choose a range for publication.
PLEASE fill out the survey! Write as little or as much as you like! By getting the word out about UMBC, you are increasing the value of your diploma! *wink*
I know a lot of people are familiar with Knight Cite, but using it just now I noticed they’ve added a register feature. I just did it. Now I can save citations, organized by what paper it’s for. I think I can even save it as a word file when I’m finished, too — I haven’t gotten there yet, haha, just started working on this paper. Anyway, thought people might be interested in this, since work cited pages can be such a pain to keep track of and crank out.
anyone know anything about the “CSI” summer program? what demo they’re going after? thanks!
I’ve published a new version of the unofficial UMBC scheduler; it’s available at http://userpages.umbc.edu/~willm1/scheduler/ . Check it out!

Hello everyone, if you have a moment click the link below and fill out as many or as few questions as you like:
Why? Here are a few good reasons:
1. Get published. That’s right. Your submission will go to editors who want to share your opinion in a guidebook that will be published nationally.
2. Shatter the stereotypes about UMBC - let people know what it’s really like.
3. Tell the world how great UMBC is. Or let us know why you hate it.
4. Represent your school ā let people know what we have to offer.
5. UMBC’s administration ignoring you? We’ll give you a national platform to voice your concerns.
6. Influence students who will apply to UMBC next year. Tell them what UMBC is really like for minority students, or chemistry majors, or basketball players, or vegans, or religious students, or liberals, or …
7. Help high school students cut through the bullshit and finally find honest information about UMBC.
8. Tell your story ā how did you end up at UMBC? Are you glad you did?
9. Share your experiences. Let others benefit from your knowledge and expertise.
10. Lastly, it’s a great way to procrastinate and it’ll be fun!

I am training to participate in an endurance event as a member of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s Team In Training. All of us on Team In Training are raising funds to help stop leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma from taking more lives. I’m completing this event in honor of my wonderful sister Lori and all individuals who are battling blood cancers. These people are the real heroes on our team, and we need your support to cross the ultimate finish line - a cure!
I’m a Starbuck’s junkie–I love the triple venti latte. Today, I finally did the math and do you know I spend $111.60 on these lattes a month? Well, I decided for the duration of my training I’m going to give up the latte and divert that money (per month) to this event. Maybe you have something in your life you could consider re-routing as a donation to this very worthy cause? Please make a donation to support my participation in Team In Training and help advance the Society’s mission. Please go to the following website to donate: http://www.active.com/donate/tntnca04/ChickenWheels My goal is to raise $4500 and I’m nearly there but I need your help! If every student on campus donated just $5, we could knock this outta the ball park!
Thanks,
Sandi
Hey everyone! I just wanted to make everyone aware of the UMBC’s upcoming Town Hall, sponsored by the Residential Student Association. We will have representatives from different resources on campus, as well as some student representatives from organizations on campus available to answer all the questions you may have about anything UMBC-related! We hope to see you there! Check out the UMBC Town Hall event on Facebook for more information!

Hey UU, I’m looking for feedback from Social Work students who have transferred to UMBC from 2 year colleges, specifically Montgomery College. We are having some big time graduation fiascos occuring because of GFR requirements here at Shady Grove. I received an Associates Degree in Mental Health and still have to struggle with year round attendance just to satisfy major, minor and GFR requirements. Now my 19 year old wants to start Social Work at UMBC Shady Grove. Any help for a 55 year old on a mission would be appreciated.

UMBC is currently considering the fast track creation of an Army ROTC program on campus. This would create a Department of Military Sciences, which would be given space on campus, conduct classes for ROTC members, and place military personnel on campus as instructors.
If you wish to voice your opposition to the creation of an Army ROTC program on the UMBC campus, please click the link below and sign the petition.
Two campus wide meetings to discuss this plan are tentatively schedule for Tues, May 13 and Wed, May 14. Final time and place TBA.

Treeveins/other UU people:
Can we get a thread started on the ROTC issue? I’ve seen the above petition circulating over the last few days and it would be nice to have another means to respond before the Town Hall event. I’m not ROTC but I am an enthusiastic supporter of the idea of bringing it here, so having a way to talk about that issue as a community (aka the whole point of this blog…
would be swell. Just my two cents.
Emailing UU (very top of page where it says contact) will probably produce much better results than posting here trying to get a story posted.
